free rhythm meditation in Ellicott City

Hi all,

I am currently in my third year of a three-year training to lead workshops in a rhythm meditation technique called taketina. Taketina uses rhythm and music to access relaxation, meditative states, and self-knowledge. Participants in a taketina circle are guided into simple stepping patterns, and then claps are added that create a rhythm with the steps. Call-and-response is then brought in, with some calls that support the rhythm and some that disrupt it. Disrupting calls are part of the process, allowing participants to "lose" the rhythm so they can find it again at a deeper level. These alternating phases of ease and chaos mirror our crazy lives, and give us a safe space to explore our patterns and ways of being. Taketina brings us into the present moment, and may lead to a deeply relaxed state.

Anyone can do taketina, even if you think you have "no rhythm", or have no experience with music. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace and find the level of engagement that works with their own inner timing. If you are present with the group, you are fully participating, whether you are doing the steps and claps, steps only, or laying down in the center of the circle listening to the music.

I am still learning, so I am offering free practice groups at my home in Ellicott City. These groups will allow me to practice before my final "exam" at the end of the training. I am still a student, and may make mistakes, but I hope that participants will take away some of the benefits of this work.

One of the groups I want to work with is stay-at-home parents, so I am offering practice groups during the day and providing childcare. There will be an optional donation basket to help defray the cost of the childcare, but I will cover as much as I can. I will also be offering some evening and weekend groups. Please contact me if you are interested, or if you have any questions. For more info about taketina, go to www.taketina.com
