PETCO and Maggie Mae's broken Leg

topic posted Sun, March 25, 2007 - 8:39 AM by  Allison
I took my 10 year old Shih tzu mix to be groomed at PETCO on Feb 19th- she has regulary ben groomed ther for over a year. I dropped her off at 9am and returned to pick her up at 3:30 and discovered that her leg had been broken during the time she was at PETCO!

She had to have a bone graft, screws and a plate inserted to repair her leg. PETCO could/would not tell me what happened to my dog. The groomer had put her in the cage and left for the day when I picked her up the yoing girl who wnet to get her was visibly upset she said "Something is wrong with Maggie Mae, Didn't Jodi (the groomer) call you? No one had called me! The Manager was called he said he could see the dog was injured- wondered if I had dropped her off like that- both young girls behind the counter told him she had been fine. His answer- take her to the vet- we will reimburse you. So fart her bills total $2700 with more visits needed. I have sent PETCO receipts by cerified mail with no response so far.

Any Advice?

Yes, contact an attorney. Immediately. If you need help finding one, let me know. I've got the hookup.

And I own two shih-tzus myself and I'd kill a bitch if they were hurt.

Yeah, I'd say it's lawyer time.

Yes Lawyer time. While verbal agreements are legally binding in the Sate or Maryland, I have experience that showed me that there are ways around it. Be sure that the manager you spoke with is still employed by PETCO. Have his name and tyr to get it in writting that he stated his agreement to pay for the vet bills. While the dog is in the care of the groomer the groomer takes on full liability unless you signed something to waive that obligation. A lawyer will be looking out for YOUR best interest and in a situation like this PETCo will end up paying his fees as well as the vet bill. $2700 and more to come puts you well in the interest of small claims court but also will get someone interested because it is a corperate entity that you are up against and if you get a judge that is a dog lover (most are) you will have no trouble getting this settled in or out of court. Get a Lawyer....
